Mathieu Borysevicz’s lecture “China, Glocalization and the challenge to be non-conventional”. This seminar will address the momentous changes in China’s contemporary art industry over the past two decades with a particular focus on the last five years, which has seen the explicit foregrounding of an international market. The course will also examine global shifts in the industry through a narration of BANK’s idiosyncratic journey from ‘curatorial studio’ to conventional gallery model. A group discussion/workshop will also imagine how 21st economic models may be employed in the expansion of art’s role in shaping contemporary culture and consumption trends.
