Invitation to Visit Tallinn Photomonth ’17

Tallinn Photomonth is delighted to announce the full program for the international contemporary art biennial taking place this year from September 1st to October 29th. The 4th edition of Tallinn Photomonth biennial opens on September 1st with the group exhibition ‘Image Drain,’ curated by Anthea Buys at Tallinn Art Hall and the Museum of Photography. A second international group exhibition curated by Stefanie Hessler opens on September 22nd at the Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia (EKKM). The citywide program includes exhibitions at Kanuti Gild, ARS Project space, Telliskivi Creative City, Freedom Square, and Kumu Art Museum, as well as a film program at Cinema Sõprus and visits to artists’ studios.

This year’s Tallinn Photomonth expands to Narva, the border city between Estonia and Russia with a complex socio-economic situation. The biennial is collaborating with Narva Art Residency and Narva Art Gallery to bring attention to the city through the residency programme, artists’ talks, and exhibitions.

One of the highlights of the main program is the Estonian Photographic Art Fair (September 29th – October 1st), which is introducing the works of 41 artists, five galleries, and five project spaces. Providing a unique platform for lens-based artists, Photomonth introduces an inaugural gallery program focusing on solo presentations of local and international artists taking place in the city during the biennial.

This year’s edition of Photomonth has also initiated a Professional Week – an intensive program from September 26th to October 1st full of networking events, lectures, book launches, artist talks, and guided tours.
