International Focus: Sofia Mariscal Herrera / Mexico City

Please join us on Thursday, November 12th at 4pm at Garage48 HUB (Rävala street 7, Tallinn) for a talk by Mexico City-based curator Sofia Mariscal Herrera about the Mexico City art scene and her work with MARSO Curatorial Initiative.

Sofia is founder and director of MARSO Curatorial Initiative, an organization that has been putting together exhibitions since 2011 while working with museums and cultural institutions in Mexico and abroad. In 2012 MARSO established a permanent gallery space in Mexico City to represent both Mexican and international artists, while expanding its cultural programming to include public lectures, editorial projects, and an interdisciplinary space dedicated to exploring where contemporary art overlaps with diverse disciplines such as design, literature, architecture, and urbanism, among many others. In 2015 MARSO collaborated with the Mexican government to present Luis Felipe Ortega’s work at the Mexican Pavilion of the 56th edition of the Venice Biennial in Italy.

In her talk, Sofia will focus on her recent projects and her work with MARSO, and give her insights about the increasingly global art scene in Mexico City.

Sofia studied International Relations at El Colegio de Mexico (COLMEX), Art History at Bologna University in Italy, and attended the Sotheby’s Art Institute in New York.

Sofia is visiting Tallinn as part of the ECADC’s Visiting Curators Program and will be exploring the local art scene as well as visiting several artist studios for further research.

You are most welcome to join us!
