Graduation Show of the Graphic Design Department of EAA (Estonian Academy of Arts)

This year, the Graphic Design Department of the Estonian Academy of Arts will see the graduation of 14 young designers. The graduation show on view at EKA gallery showcases the students’ skills and knowledge honed throughout their studies. The exhibition includes self-initiated projects as well as commissioned work by Laura Herma, Johann Kabonen, Maria Kesküla, Henri Kutsar, Else Mare Lagerspetz, Henno Luts, Maria Muuk, Harles Neljand, Andree Paat, Maren Poel, Juuso Veikko Siltanen, Anne Loore Sundja, Aimur Takk, and Iida Kaisa Urm. The graduation show will be introduced by the EAA gallerist Keiu Krikmann.

6pm Haus galerii (Uus 17)

Indrek Aava, Solo Show

In conjunction with Tallinn Tuesdays, the painter Indrek Aava will be holding a public workshop on animation, particularly suitable for families with children. All materials will be provided by the gallery. As an artist mainly working in the medium of painting, Aava is interested in the interrelations between the filmic and the real, which, when combined on a canvas, lead to a different kind of reality. His solo show will remain on view at the gallery until 16 June, 2016.

7pm Temnikova & Kasela galerii (Lastekodu 1)

Inga Meldere, Solo Show „House by the waterfall or colouring books for adults“

The Latvian painter Inga Meldere’s most recent solo show focuses on the act of colouring. Meldere usually proceeds from a (found) image, of which the painting, then, serves as a continuation. For her current exhibition, Meldere uses colouring books for adults as an example of how, while colouring, the following of contours of a drawing affects our subconscious and freedom of association. The exhibition on view at the gallery will be introduced by the art historian Annika Toots.

7.30pm Vaal galerii (Tartu mnt 80d)

Marta Stratskas, Solo Show „Possible“

With her new series of paintings, Marta Stratskas uses mythological subject matter to talk about the beginning and the end. There is much folklore surrounding the serpent or snake in Finno-Ugric culture, but also in different cultures around the world. The musician Artur Lääts, who has composed audio for the exhibition, will play a live set during Tallinn Tuesdays, which will also be final day of Stratskas’ exhibition.

8.30pm Fahle galerii (Tartu mnt 84a)

Tõnis Laanemaa, Solo Show

Tõnis Laanemaa, born 1937, in Tartu, Estonia, is perhaps more widely known as a member of the ANK’64 avant-garde movement. Coinciding with Tallinn Tuesdays, Laanemaa’s exhibition gives an overview of the artist’s practice from the mid-1960s until today. Laanemaa takes his subject matter from that which surrounds him – Estonian landscape and people have been important for the artist throughout decades and continue to be so. A conversation with the artist will be held in conjunction of Tallinn Tuesdays on Tuesday, 14 June, 2016.
